Dr. Ling Chen

Curriculum Vitae

Ling Chen was born in 1981 in Shanghai, China.

She started the study of computer science at the University of Freiburg in 2002 and focused on database and information system. In Spring 2008, she received the Dipl.-Inf. degree with the thesis “Learning from Structured Web Content”, in which she was engaged in the research and development of machine learning technology in data mining and information extraction.

During her studies, she worked for several companies and institutes in the field of software engineering and microcomputer programming. Before having done PhD, Ling was a software developer and analysed medical texts in the company Averbis.

From 2008 to 2011 she worked as a research assistant at the Laboratory for Electrical Instrumentation in the Department of Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK) at the University of Freiburg. In these three years Ling worked for the German national research project I-LOV and concentrated on applications and technologies for wireless sensor systems and advanced radar systems in disaster situations.

In winter 2011 she earned the Dr.-Ing. degree with her dissertation on “Characterization and Modeling of the Mobile Radio Propagation Channel in Disaster Scenarios”. One month later her daughter Simona was born.

After her promotion Ling has been building up a research group on “Digital Signal Processing” at the Laboratory for Electrical Instrumentation, IMTEK.

In September 2013 she got her second daughter. Now she combines the mother leave with part-time work.
